Engineer and Passionate Potter

I'm Saima Shafi, widely known as Kralkoor (Potter Girl) from Downtown Srinagar. As an engineer and potter, I'm dedicated to reviving traditional Kashmiri pottery. My journey into pottery began as a way to manage personal challenges, but it soon evolved into a mission to restore this rich heritage. I've set up 'Kralkoor Pottery Studio,' Kashmir's first modern pottery studio, where I blend traditional and contemporary techniques.

Education: BE in Civil Engineering (SSM College Pattan), MBA in Infrastructure and Finance (Panjab University)
Passion: Reviving traditional Kashmiri pottery and empowering women
Achievements: Recognized by local and international platforms, including awards such as the 'Womennovator Award' and being named among the 'Top 100 Inspiring Women in Asia'

Modern Pottery Revivalist: Saima is the pioneer of modern pottery revival in Kashmir. She launched the first-ever modern pottery studio in Srinagar in 2019, combining traditional craft with contemporary art techniques.

Saima has trained numerous local potters, offering them guidance on modern art pottery and helping them rejuvenate their livelihoods by introducing them to new pottery techniques and products such as pottery-based jewelry, decorative items, and modern earthenware.

As a civil engineer, Saima successfully manages her professional career while being deeply involved in reviving an ancient art form that was on the verge of extinction in Kashmir. Her efforts have not only preserved this craft but also elevated its status among the youth and artisans of the region.
